The Chewelah Farmers is searching for a market manager. The job’s main responsibility is organizing the market’s operation, all day every Friday, from mid-May to mid-October, 11am – 3:30pm at the NW corner of Chewelah Park. Our market is thriving, and it’s an exciting time to be part of such a dynamic, motivated team working toward shared goals.

Our Market Manager position is responsible for running the market each Friday. The manager connects vendors, customers, and organizers; recruits and schedules vendors; ensures everyone follows the rules; and manages the site setup and teardown. They also promote the market, oversee food assistance programs such as EBT, handle disputes, and report on market performance. Throughout, they work to create a lively, safe, and welcoming space while encouraging educational opportunities to build a sustainable community.


Job Description: Farmers Market Operations Manager

The Chewelah Farmers Market is NE Washington’s largest farmers market, whose mission is to support small, local farms of all types, providing food security to the community. The market also supports the creative economy in the valley and surrounding mountains, offering a variety of local artisan crafts, hand made by our vendors. The market opened over 18 years ago and has continuously grown over time. The Chewelah Farmers Market is a Washington State non-profit corporation and belongs to the state association of all farmers markets. The board of directors of the market works closely with the market manager to ensure smooth operations, offering a unique and impactful experience for the community and surrounding area.

Compensation: Monthly stipend TBD.

Part-time Schedule: Every Friday at the Chewelah City Park from 8am to 5pm. Other, flexible hours managing administration responsibilities, community engagement opportunities, and other activities and responsibilities as they arise, including an annual winter market, end of season Annual Meeting, and early season vendor meeting.

The Operations Manager for the farmers market is a multi-faceted role requiring a broad array of characteristics to successfully manage the people, businesses, and organizations involved in the enterprise.

Market Management

  • Set up market management booth and organize volunteers.
  • Manage point of sale devices.
  • Manage EBT and alternative pay processes.
  • Organize music and maintain sound systems.
  • Supervise vendor placement according to policy and circumstance.
  • Provide assistance to market customers, providing a safe and secure market experience.
  • Oversee sales of market branded t-shirts, aprons and shopping bags, replenish market merchandise.
  • Problem solving, community minded, self-motivated, personable, with attention to detail.

Administrative Duties

  • Knowledge of basic accounting and math skills, and use of computers and software.
  • Track and coordinate payments from and to the farmer’s market, issue and pay invoices.
  • Data entry in Excel software.
  • Work with state and federal organizations to ensure market compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Work with vendors to gather sales and other data for governmental authorities.

Market Equipment

  • Store, maintain and haul the 14-foot enclosed market trailer full of market necessities; canopies, chairs, tables, market carts, and market totes with the forms, table cloths and other necessary equipment. Trailer must be hauled to and from the site of the farmers market and other events when necessary. The Chewelah City Hall parking lot is available to store the market trailer if required.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to move heavy market equipment and set up to manage market operations.
  • Must bend, twist, reach and lean without discomfort, and stand for long periods of time.
